Açaí (Euterpe oleracea) is a small dark-purple berry from a palm tree endemic to the Amazon rainforest, primarily grown in the state of Pará, Brazil. Ranked among the world's most antioxidant-rich foods, it has an ORAC index above 100,000 µmol TE/100g — ten times more than blueberries and thirty times more than red wine.
Its exceptional nutritional profile includes anthocyanins (antioxidant pigments), omega-9 fatty acids (oleic acid, as in olive oil), dietary fibre, essential amino acids and vitamins B and E. This richness makes it a prime ingredient for the functional food and wellness market.
Certified organic açaí is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, in harmony with the Amazon forest. USDA Organic and EU Organic certification guarantees full traceability from tree to freezing. It opens access to certified organic shelves in supermarkets, specialist retailers (Naturalia, BioCoop) and the highly demanding North American and Australian markets.
The quality of açaí pulp depends closely on the speed of processing after harvest. Fruits are handpicked, transported to processing units within 24 hours of harvest to prevent any fermentation, then cold-processed:
Frozen sorbets and pulps are shipped in 40' reefer containers at −18°C from the Brazilian ports of Belém or Santarém (Pará, Amazon). Freeze-dried powder ships in standard dry containers. Documents provided: USDA/EU organic certificate, nutritional analysis certificate, phytosanitary certificate, packing list, reefer B/L. Quality inspection at loading available on request.
