Açaí — Amazonia's superfood

Açaí (Euterpe oleracea) is a small dark-purple berry from a palm tree endemic to the Amazon rainforest, primarily grown in the state of Pará, Brazil. Ranked among the world's most antioxidant-rich foods, it has an ORAC index above 100,000 µmol TE/100g — ten times more than blueberries and thirty times more than red wine.

Its exceptional nutritional profile includes anthocyanins (antioxidant pigments), omega-9 fatty acids (oleic acid, as in olive oil), dietary fibre, essential amino acids and vitamins B and E. This richness makes it a prime ingredient for the functional food and wellness market.

🌿 Why choose certified organic?

Certified organic açaí is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, in harmony with the Amazon forest. USDA Organic and EU Organic certification guarantees full traceability from tree to freezing. It opens access to certified organic shelves in supermarkets, specialist retailers (Naturalia, BioCoop) and the highly demanding North American and Australian markets.

Manufacturing process and storage

The quality of açaí pulp depends closely on the speed of processing after harvest. Fruits are handpicked, transported to processing units within 24 hours of harvest to prevent any fermentation, then cold-processed:

  • Frozen sorbets and pulps — Cold mechanical extraction, flash pasteurisation, rapid freezing at −40°C, modified atmosphere packaging. Cold chain maintained at −18°C from production to point of sale.
  • Freeze-dried powder — Freeze-drying preserves 95% of the nutrients, aromas and colour of the fresh berry. Shelf-stable product, ideal for incorporation into dry recipes without cold chain requirements.

B2B applications and target markets

  • Food service and HoReCa — 3.6L and 5L formats ideal for restaurants, smoothie bars, açaí bowl concepts and hotels. Simple thawing at room temperature or in the fridge, ready in 12 hours.
  • Retail and organic stores — 1.3L format positioned in frozen food aisles of supermarkets and organic grocers. Zero sugar version meets health-conscious consumer demand.
  • Food industry — 12% pulp and freeze-dried powder used in yoghurts, energy bars, functional beverages, ice cream, dietary supplements and superfood blends.
  • Fitness and sports nutrition — Freeze-dried açaí powder is the trending ingredient in post-workout smoothies and protein bowls in gyms and nutrition stores.
