Mixed multi-brand beverage pallet: consolidating suppliers and cutting hidden costs

The mixed beverage pallet: rethinking your purchasing logistics

May 2026 · 4 min read · By the Martigane team
If you handle purchasing for a food wholesaler or a buying group, you know the problem: Coca-Cola from one supplier, Red Bull from another, Fanta and Sprite from a third. Four suppliers, four invoices, four deliveries, four stockout risks. The multi-brand mixed pallet changes that equation.

The hidden cost of multiplying suppliers

Working with four different suppliers for your carbonated and energy drink range costs considerably more than it appears. The hidden costs most buyers underestimate:

💸 The real cost

An average retail buyer loses a meaningful sum each year in hidden costs tied to supplier fragmentation on the beverage aisle alone. Consolidating onto a mixed pallet returns that money to your margin.

How the mixed pallet works

In practice you compose the pallet as you need it. A typical configuration might combine several layers of Coca-Cola Classic in 33cl cans, a layer of Red Bull, a layer of Fanta Orange and a layer of Sprite — one order, one delivery, one invoice.

The commercial logic is simple: your volumes are consolidated with a single supplier, so you reach rebate thresholds that would be out of reach if the same volume were split four ways.

Who benefits most

The practical limits

A mixed pallet is not always the right answer. Above a certain volume per reference — typically once you are moving a full pallet of a single SKU every week — buying that reference in full pallets becomes cheaper per unit. The mixed pallet is a tool for building and testing a range, not a permanent substitute for volume buying on your top sellers.

The most effective structure for most buyers is a hybrid: full pallets on the three or four fastest-rotating references, and a mixed pallet for everything else.
