In 1848, Youssef Hamoud joined a sparkling water factory in Algiers as a simple worker. Thirty years later, in 1878, he founded his own company. 147 years on, Hamoud Boualem remains a family business, leader of the Algerian non-alcoholic carbonated beverages market.
The brand's history is marked by international recognition: at the 1889 Paris World's Fair — the one for which the Eiffel Tower was built — Gazouz Blanche won a gold medal hors concours. A distinction that speaks volumes about the manufacturing quality of the Hamoud house at a time when global competition was already fierce.
In 2025, Hamoud Boualem acquired Groupe Castel's stake in NCA Rouiba, a major player in Algerian juices and beverages since 1966. The Hamoud house continues to expand and consolidate its leadership position in the Maghrebi and diaspora markets.
Apple essence soda, slightly caramelised, amber colour. Created in 1907 under the name Victoria. The absolute reference of the Hamoud house, the one that exports best to Europe. Formats: 33cl cans, 1L and 2L PET, 25cl and 1L glass.
The original white lemonade, presented at the 1889 Paris World's Fair. Fresh, lightly sweet lemonade flavour. The quintessential Iftar drink, accompanying dates at fast-breaking for generations. Very high demand during Ramadan.
Fruit soda available in several flavours: black (cola), white (lemonade), orange, pineapple, lemon, strawberry, lychee. The variety of flavours allows you to cover all preferences and create an attractive, colourful shelf display. Excellent value for money for a community range.
The cola by Hamoud Boualem. Less well-known than Selecto but true to the brand's positioning: the Algerian cola for those who prefer their home country's brands.
Build a "Hamoud Boualem corner" in your beverage aisle: group Selecto, Hamoud Blanche and Slim side by side with generous facings. The range effect attracts attention and generates multi-reference purchases. Algerian community customers tend to pick up several references in a single visit.
An important point: a production licence is granted to Source PAROT, based in Saint-Romain-le-Puy (Loire), for the manufacture of Selecto and Hamoud Blanche in France. This means that part of the volume sold on the French market is produced locally, with simpler supply logistics and shorter lead times compared to direct import from Algeria.
Mainstream large-scale distribution battles on price and promotions. In the Algerian beverage segment, price is not the primary purchase criterion. Brand loyalty, authenticity and product availability take precedence over everything.
A wholesaler who distributes the Hamoud Boualem range to their grocery clients benefits from a simple competitive advantage: if your clients find Selecto in your catalogue, they have no need to look elsewhere. You become their single supplier, consolidating the commercial relationship across your entire catalogue.
