The war in Ukraine triggered an unprecedented global sunflower oil crisis: Ukraine alone represents 46% of global exports. Prices doubled within weeks. This episode revealed the vulnerability of single-source supply chains.
Martigane's response: a rigorous multi-sourcing strategy — simultaneously sourcing from Ukraine (production progressively resumed), Argentina (second-largest world exporter) and Hungary/Romania (EU origins, shorter lead times).
High Oleic sunflower oil is produced from selected sunflower varieties with high oleic acid content (≥ 75% vs 25% for standard sunflower). It offers better heat stability, a longer shelf life and a nutritional profile close to olive oil. Highly sought-after for industrial frying and food service.
