Following the 2022 crisis that exposed the fragility of single-source sunflower oil supply chains, Martigane built a rigorous multi-sourcing strategy across three complementary origins. The result: guaranteed supply continuity, consistent quality and competitive pricing — regardless of the geopolitical situation on any one origin.

Sunflower oil: a strategic commodity turned sensitive

Ukraine and Russia represented over 70% of global sunflower oil exports before 2022. The conflict caused an abrupt supply disruption: within weeks, prices doubled and European supermarket shelves emptied. This crisis forced all distribution players to rethink their procurement strategy.

Martigane drew a definitive lesson: never depend on a single origin for such a strategic food commodity. We now source simultaneously from three complementary origins depending on global market availability.

🌻 Our 3 origins

Ukraine — World's leading origin, production progressively restored. Most competitive price when available. Argentina — Second-largest global exporter, supply stability independent of European risks. Hungary / Romania — EU origins, ideal for buyers sensitive to European traceability, shorter lead times from Lille.

Grades available at Martigane

Refined sunflower oil — Acidity < 0.2%

The reference grade for large-scale retail and food manufacturing. Acidity below 0.2% (superior quality standard per EU regulation), controlled peroxide value (< 5 mEq O₂/kg), clear light yellow colour. Each batch comes with an accredited laboratory analysis confirming compliance.

High Oleic sunflower oil

Produced from selected sunflower varieties for their oleic acid content (≥ 75% vs 25% for standard). Key advantages: better heat stability (ideal for industrial frying), longer shelf life, nutritional profile close to olive oil. Increasingly demanded by food manufacturers and institutional catering.

📦 Available packaging

Retail: 1L and 2L PET bottles (FR, Arabic or EN labelling by destination), 5L cans.
HoReCa & catering: 10L and 20L cans.
Bulk export: 20-tonne flexi-tanks (in 20ft container), 1000L IBC, 200L drums.
Minimum volume: from one pallet (80 × 5L cans) or 1 flexi-tank for export.

Africa export: the sunflower oil opportunity

Sub-Saharan Africa and the Maghreb are fast-growing markets for sunflower oil, with demand growing 5 to 8% per year. From our Lille warehouse, Martigane exports to Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire on FOB Le Havre or CIF destination port terms.
